Negative Pregnancy Test

When a woman suspects she might be pregnant, it’s a great relief to receive a negative pregnancy test result or to start her period. The immediate crisis is over, and many vow to never let it happen again. This promise can be fulfilled through abstinence (or secondary virginity)! In fact, abstinence is an option that thousands of young people are choosing today.

Here are just some of the benefits of this commitment:

  • Abstinence is the only 100% effective method to prevent pregnancy.
  • You won’t contract a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).
  • You will be spared the heartache and pain that sex often brings to an unmarried person.

After a negative pregnancy test, some women become more intent on using contraceptives to prevent future pregnancies while continuing to be sexually active. However, few realize that many women still get pregnant even when using the pill or other birth control methods.

Some young women confess they don’t even enjoy the sexual encounter but agree to it because they seek closeness and to feel loved. Men can sometimes push for sex as a means of “showing” love, leaving the woman feeling obligated, despite deriving little pleasure outside of the embrace. What they don’t realize is that they deserve the best sexual experience, which ideally exists within a committed marital relationship.

Sexual activity outside of marriage has serious risks besides pregnancy, such as Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases (STIs/STDs), which impact thousands of young people each year.

When you give the most precious and intimate part of your body to someone who isn’t serious about the relationship, you risk ending up alone with a broken heart. Anyone who truly cares about you will be willing to wait and not pressure you into sexual activity.

Discover all you can about these issues before deciding to continue with sexual activity. Understand that if you miss a period following sexual activity in the future, we are still here to help. It’s important to learn more about abortion before it becomes a possibility in your life. In times of crisis, it’s hard to think clearly. Even if you’re not pregnant now, educate yourself by visiting the other pages on this site or by visiting us.

Making informed decisions about sexual activity and understanding the consequences are critical steps in protecting your physical and emotional well-being. Abstinence, or choosing not to engage in sexual activity, is a valid and effective choice that guarantees prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also spares individuals from the potential emotional distress that can accompany uncommitted sexual relationships.

For those who have experienced the anxiety of a potential unplanned pregnancy, it’s an opportunity to reassess personal choices and consider the benefits of abstinence. It’s essential to remember that you deserve a relationship based on mutual respect and commitment, and that true affection and care do not necessitate sexual involvement.

We encourage you to continue educating yourself on these matters. Whether it’s understanding the effectiveness of different birth control methods, the emotional aspects of sexual relationships, or the implications of an unplanned pregnancy, knowledge is your most powerful tool. And remember, should you find yourself facing uncertainties or difficulties related to sexual health or pregnancy in the future, support is available. We are committed to providing you with the necessary resources and guidance to navigate these challenging situations with confidence and clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I need an appointment?

Answer: Walk-ins are welcome. However, it is best to make an appointment to minimize your office wait time.

Question: What is the cost?

Answer: All our services are free and confidential.

Question: What should I expect when I come for my visit?

Answer: Upon your arrival, our friendly receptionist will introduce you to a registered nurse that will provide your care. This RN will offer you a judgement-free space to talk, followed by essential information and a pregnancy test. In the event of a positive test result, your nurse will perform a limited obstetric ultrasound to verify the pregnancy's viability and estimate the age of the fetus.

Question: How long after sex does it take for a pregnancy test to work and how accurate is the test?

Answer: Our tests can be performed 7 to 10 days after conception. A client with a negative result may be invited to return within 2 weeks for a repeat test if she has not had her period.

If you have taken a home pregnancy test, you may want to confirm results with a laboratory-quality test at our medical office. Our tests detect HCg levels within 7 to 10 after conception.

Question: Will you tell anyone about my visit?

Answer: We maintain a rigorous privacy and confidentiality policy. Our clients' information is safeguarded against unauthorized disclosure, respecting their right to privacy, except in instances mandated by law. This includes situations necessary for public health, preventing harm to the client or others, or in specific circumstances where the use or disclosure of information is justified without prior consent, such as in cases of abuse reporting or suicide/homicide prevention.

Question: When should I schedule an appointment?

Answer: Our high-quality, medical-grade pregnancy tests are capable of detecting pregnancy from the first day after your initial missed period. We advise scheduling an appointment if you've missed a period, have any queries related to pregnancy, or suspect that you might be pregnant.

Question: How far along do I have to be to get a free ultrasound?

Answer: After an initial consultation with one of our RN's, we offer on-site ultrasound scans. These limited ultrasounds are conducted by “a registered nurse or a registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS)” and are subsequently reviewed by a licensed physician. The purpose of an ultrasound is to confirm the viability of the pregnancy and to establish the gestational age.

Question: I already know I'm pregnant and I want an abortion, what's next?

Answer: It is advisable to have an ultrasound to confirm the viability of your pregnancy and to ensure it is located within the uterus, as 20% to 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Moreover, the ultrasound helps in determining the stage of your pregnancy, which is essential in making an informed decision about the type of abortion procedure you may consider. We offer a limited ultrasound free of charge.
